How Could You Disappear?
This hauntingly beautiful, yet sparse electronic and folk-infused number is from London-based doctor-by-day and artist-by-night Fran O’Hanlon, aka AJIMAL. Fran released his debut album Childhood back in 2015 while studying at medical school, where earlier in his course when working as a medic in Haiti, he acquired his moniker after coming across a voodoo priest of that name. Now back with new material from his second album, As It Grows Dark/Light, to be released next year and produced by Guy Massey (The Beatles, Spiritualized, The Divine Comedy), How Could You Disappear? offers a tantalising glimpse into his new music. Underpinned by a driving electronic rhythm, the track with its lush orchestral arrangements, dreamy piano textures and lingering vocals has already seen the Line of Best Fit sing its praises. Previous tastemaker support has come from John Kennedy (Radio X), Tom Robinson (BBC Introducing), NME, Clash and Crack in the Road. Next month (21 Nov) he will be playing the House Of St Barnabas, so mark this in your diary now, where he will be previewing more material from his forthcoming album.
