Dead End

Raquel Martins

Bridge The Gap

WE SAY

We’ve long had a soft spot for artists who sit a little left of centre, and Portuguese-born, London-based Raquel Martins delivers just that with her new track 'Dead End'. Built on a languid groove and woozy minimal textures, the track dips into alt-soul with flashes of psychedelic jazz and ambient trip-hop—resulting in a smoky, introspective cut that feels both intimate and expansive. Lifted from her forthcoming debut album 'London, When Are U Gonna Feel Like Home?', out 12 September via Bridge The Gap, the single explores the inescapability of self—a central theme across a record shaped by identity, dislocation and emotional reckoning. Written and recorded in between tours as a guitarist for Amaarae, Biig Piig, Rina Sawayama, Mabel and Poppy Ajudha, the album arrives with a strong foundation of tastemaker support. She’s already picked up attention from Wonderland, Colours Studio, F Word and DMY, along with playlisting on Spotify’s Fresh Finds and New Music Friday, and spins across BBC Radio 6 Music, Radio 2, Radio 3, NTS, Jazz FM and Selector Radio. 'Dead End' is a captivating step forward—introspective yet sonically adventurous—and cements Martins as one to watch ahead of her debut LP.
