We were seriously impressed when this gorgeous, soulful alt-R&B cut dropped into our inbox last month from east London’s Malunga. Last featured on RotD in 2019 with 'Proud', she has since been steadily building her name with support from Toddla T (BBC Radio 1), Earmilk, SoulBounce, Reprezent, Hoxton Radio and more. Recorded in a single, intimate session with producer Peter Hakola, 'This Is Not Me' strips everything back to raw emotion, with Malunga’s rich, velvety vocal front and centre as she unpacks cycles of self-doubt and searching. Hushed electronic percussion, warm keyboard swells and fluttering synths slowly gather into a soaring chorus with a late-90s/00s trip-hop sensibility. Lifted from her forthcoming 'Sensitive Soul' EP, due next year, the single arrives next week (pre-order here). With its radio-friendly shine and laid-back groove, it’s tailor-made for soul/R&B shows across Radio 1, Radio 2 and 1Xtra, as well as key DSP playlists on release.
