We say

Starting our new week of Ones To Watch 2024 is an artist that should be familiar to regular readers. We first featured the off-kilter, ’90s grunge-inspired alt-pop sound of Brooklyn-based singer, songwriter and producer Richard Orofino in the summer of 2021. Since then, the 25 year old has shown that he is not shy about combining a diverse range of influences from the likes of Sade, New Order, Cocteau Twins, Jane’s Addiction and Smashing Pumpkins to his music. In August, he released his EP ‘Forging A Hardened Outer Shell’, which contains this breezy alt offering co-written with friend and producer Christian Taylor and the grunge-drenched RotD featured track ‘Heart Splat’. Along the way, he has caught the attention of Clash, Ladygunn, Clout, Wonderland, Earmilk and Atwood, as well as numerous editorial playlists at Spotify (inc. Lorem, IRL Angels, All New Indie, Undercurrents & more) and regional UK radio playlists. Earlier this month, he played his first UK date at a packed Dublin Castle in London, as well as a live stream for Lounges.tv in support of his release, a cover of The Magnetic Fields’ ‘All The Umbrellas In London’. With US dates booked for the early part of 2024 and new music to come, we can’t wait to hear what’s next.
