WE SAY
Whispers of Cork four-piece The Drive. have been moving through Ireland's underground for some time now, and in June, we highlighted them here with 'shelley.'. Having built a reputation through word-of-mouth basement shows, the band crafts a sound that blends shoegaze and grunge and draws comparisons to the Cure, Interpol and Deftones. Their new single 'nothing crossed.' opens in near silence with Eoin Murphy’s vocal sketching unease before the track erupts into a claustrophobic wall of guitars and drums. Exploring broken promises on both personal and societal levels, it distils the band’s ability to channel displacement and disillusionment into something visceral and unflinching. Already commanding attention with Spotify support (melomania, Alternative Ireland) and praise from Dork, DIY, The Line of Best Fit, Ones To Watch, The Irish Times, Hot Press, GoldenPlec, plus a reputation for high-stakes live performances, this is a band building something undeniable. Catch them at Paper Dress Vintage in London (15 October) before their Irish headline tour this autumn.
