Oliver Spalding
Novemberism

Monotreme Records

WE SAY

When Fader recently premiered this cool track from Brighton-based singer-songwriter Oliver Spalding, they summed it up perfectly as being ‘a delicate and effervescent delight’. It’s a description with which we absolutely concur. Oliver first hooked up with producer and Novo Amor collaborator Ed Tullett almost five years ago and helped him shape his sound, ahead of the release of his first EP. It was a skilful blend of moody electronic influences and rhythms with fragile folk-tinged melodies and falsetto vocals, creating an enchanting collection of tracks. After receiving acclaim to date from key tastemakers including the Line Of Best Fit and Clash among others, he’s now about to unveil his debut album this November. John Kennedy at Radio X is already a keen supporter, having played the single multiple times on his evening show. Pulsing retro beats and bleeps deliver a neat nod to the early days of '80s synthpop, whilst there are loads of subtle earworms to carry the whole thing along, keeping you hooked throughout this noteworthy title track from the album. Dive in, folks.
