Everythinglessness
Alexander Wolfe
WE SAY
'Everythinglessness' is the stark, soul-piercing title-track of London-born artist Alexander Wolfe's forthcoming new album, out on Friday (16 January). Built around a loop of panicked breathing lifted from a friend’s voice note and stripped back to just five lines of lyrics, the track is a sparse, unsettling and devastatingly effective portrayal of the moment despair takes hold. Its power lies in restraint: analogue textures, soft guitars and layered harmonies are offset by its cinematic use of silence, noise and space as emotional touchstones. Written after a period of intense personal reckoning, including time spent in a mental-health rehab facility in 2023, the track distils Alexander’s ability to transform lived anguish into something quietly universal. Raised in 1990s Woolwich, Alexander has long been a chronicler of modern British life, pairing observational grit with bruised empathy. We last featured him before the pandemic, but with this single and his new album, Alexander showcases his most honest and poignant work to date. With live appearances on BBC London, 5 Live and Times Radio booked in for later this month, previous tastemaker support has come from 6 Music (Lauren Laverne), The Line of Best Fit, Clash and more. 'Everythinglessness' doesn’t shout. It breathes, trembles, and tells the truth, making it a must listen.
