What If I

We say

With its wistful melodies and ethereal atmosphere, ‘What If I’ is the gorgeous new slow burner from North East songwriter and producer Jodie Nicholson. Opening with a soft electric guitar melody, Jodie’s vocals engulf you in an intimate and warm embrace as the track builds to its epic finale amidst layers of harmonies, synths and lush production. Taken from her self-produced second album, ‘Safe Hands’, the track follows her comeback single, ‘Another Frequency’, earlier this year, which caught the attention and support of Radio 1 (Jess Iszatt), 6 Music (Tom Robinson), BBC Introducing in the North East, Selector Radio and Apple Music. Released yesterday (27 March), expect to hear this pick up further support on radio and additions to DSP's new release programming and mellow alternative playlists. She has recently signed a publishing deal with Wipe Out Music and made the Glastonbury Emerging Talent Contest 2024 longlist thanks to The Line of Best Fit editor Paul Bridgewater. Having supported her in Compass in July 2020 and in RotD later that year and in 2021, it is great to see her come back strong in 2024 with two brilliant singles, and after hearing a sneak peak of her second album, there are more stunning tracks to come.
