Do U Miss Me

Impact date: Out now
ROTD featured date: Thursday 20 February 2020

We say

Over two years ago we introduced you to the bewitching and soulful sound of Swedish singer, songwriter and producer Thea Gustafsson, aka Becky and the Birds. Now signed to 4AD, she is back with this absolutely stunning piece of smooth, alt-soul-pop, taken from her forthcoming new EP and her first single for the label. Like all her previous music, there is a real sense of intimacy in Do U Miss Me as her sublime vocals softly transport you into her lush and soothing musical world. With echoes of Liz Fraser and Frank Ocean-like production, the track has already picked up online praise from the likes of Gorilla Vs Bear, Northern Transmissions and Autumn Roses since it dropped yesterday (19 February). Expect more tastemaker praise to come over the next few days, as well as additions to new release programming and soul-pop playlists at streaming services tomorrow (it would be a crime if it wasn’t featured). Previous support has come from the Line of Best Fit, Dummy, Clash, Spotify and fellow Swedish music star, Tove Lo. Becky and the Birds is an artist, we think, has all the right ingredients to become Sweden’s and possibly the world’s next big star. You can see for yourself next month when she will be supporting Jadu Heart at the Scala on 12 March.
