Drenched with soothing tones and a luscious, soulful vocal, Holding On by Swedish artist Thea Gustafsson, aka Becky and the Birds, is something truly bewitching. Having attended the prestigious Musikmakarna Songwriters Academy of Sweden (LÉON and Skott), the 21-year-old from Örebro who writes, produces, sings, and mixes all of her own music, decided to work on her own project after becoming frustrated with all-male producers mansplaining and stifling her vision in recording sessions. The result is a gorgeous slice of downtempo, alt-soul-pop that soars with euphoric intent over a blend of ‘90s R&B, dreamy trip-hop and ‘00s electronic vibes. Premiered by Clash earlier in the month and named Song of the Day on The Line of Best Fit, Holding On has also been garnering some serious praise from the likes of Dummy, Born Music, and All Things Go Music, plus fellow Swedish music star, Tove Lo, tweeted her support. An impressive and sumptuous debut.
