Only Happen

Nectar Woode

Since93 /RCA UK

WE SAY

Next up in our spotlight for the Great Escape Festival is rising British-Ghanaian soul star Nectar Woode. Raised in Milton Keynes and now based in London, the 25 year old has been turning heads with her warm blend of soulful vocals, jazz-inflected chords, and R&B rhythms. Growing up in a creatively rich environment, shaped by community music rooms and her Ghanaian father’s love of jazz and Highlife, Nectar taught herself guitar and songwriting. Since releasing her debut EP ‘Nothing To Lose’ and its follow-up ‘Head Above Water’ last year, Nectar has attracted over 865k monthly Spotify listeners, received support from BBC Radio 1 and 2, and earned praise from Elton John, Notion, Wonderland, and The Line of Best Fit, to name a few. Premiered on Jack Saunders' Radio 1 show last night, ‘Only Happen’ is her latest single, released today, and first for new label Since 93/RCA. Co-written and produced with Jordan Rakei at Abbey Road Studios, the track is a confident, strikingly beautiful statement — full of soulful grooves, smooth textures, and a standout vocal performance. It’s been featured on new release programming across Apple Music, Amazon Music and Deezer, and looks set to land on prominent soul playlists and on BBC shows in the coming weeks. Fresh from supporting Nao on tour, Nectar will perform two shows at The Great Escape at Fabrica—Thursday (7:15pm, full band) and Friday (2:15pm, solo)—before hitting Dot To Dot and a summer run of 11 European festivals, including Love Supreme and Gent Jazz. With her blend of refined soul, raw emotion, and crossover appeal, Nectar Woode brings smooth, jazz-flecked soul to Brighton—and we can’t wait.
