Sippy Cup
We say
Starting this week's Ones To Watch 2026 is rising post-punk pop group My First Time. Since breaking through with last year’s cult anthem 'Man Of Ill Repute', the Bristol four-piece have carved out a reputation for wickedly sharp lyricism and an infectious blend of new-school punk, thrashy pop and twisted, hook-laden riffs. Drawing from The Streets, 'Parklife'-era Blur and the pop dynamism of Marina, they've earned tastemaker backing from Apple Music’s Matt Wilkinson, BBC Radio 1’s Jack Saunders and 6 Music’s Steve Lamacq, while their summer single 'Bodybag' secured BBC Introducing Track of the Week, and NME hailed them as “the Bristol punks bringing light to dark times”. Their latest and fourth release of 2025, 'Sippy Cup', underlines their growing momentum. Driven by snarling guitars, thunderous drums and whip-smart commentary, it lands as a sharp, addictive shot at the ever-shifting demands of a toxic, unforgiving entertainment industry explored through the lens of escapism. Hailed by Clash as “one of the weekend’s true surprises” after their set at The Great Escape, the band have spent 2025 on the move - supporting SOFY, playing alongside Picture Parlour, hitting Wilderness, Dot To Dot and Get Together, and closing a chaotic autumn run with a packed show at The George Tavern in London last week. Tomorrow (2 Dec), they support Home Counties at the Scala. Sharp, loud, funny and unflinchingly self-aware, My First Time are fast emerging as one of the UK’s most exciting new bands, and 2026 looks theirs for the taking.
