Tricky

We say
Melbourne outfit Floodlights venture into bold new synth-driven terrain on 'Tricky', while maintaining the raw emotional honesty that defines their sound. Self-produced in their home studio with guitarist Archie Shannon behind the desk and a DIY video shot across their UK tour, the track captures the tension and release that comes with navigating love and transformation. Marrying rock DNA with dancefloor propulsion through driving rhythms and shimmering synths, there's a stadium-sized ambition here that recalls the Killers and Springsteen, yet remains unmistakably Floodlights. First previewed during their UK and EU tour, ‘Tricky’ signals an exciting evolution from the widescreen rock of 2023’s Painting of My Time and their acclaimed debut From a View. Since emerging with 2019’s Backyard EP, the band have earned consistent praise from BBC Radio 6 Music, Radio X, The Line of Best Fit, NME, The Australian, and Rolling Stone, who dubbed them “one of the most formidable live acts in Australia this decade.” Following festival slots at Pitchfork Paris, End of the Road, SXSW Austin, and Laneway, Floodlights are back in the UK this month for a string of sold-out shows supporting Amyl & The Sniffers, including their own headline at the Shacklewell Arms in London tomorrow night (21 Oct).
