Serpentine

We say
'Serpentine' is the gorgeous new single from Norwegian alt-pop artist Iris Caltwait, taken from her debut album 'Again, for the first time' (7 November via 777 Music). Previously known as iris, the Bergen-based artist delivers classy, timeless pop songwriting about rediscovering anger after a friendship betrayal: "You stepped on my toes and I stayed quiet / As If I don't mind it / As if I don't know that you get a kick out of seeing me cry." Co-produced with Askjell (Sigrid, Aurora), the 16-track album was crafted across Bergen, Oslo, Copenhagen and Gothenburg — blending home recordings, field samples and mid-song production shifts that mirror its emotional fragility. Taking cues from Mitski, Adrienne Lenker and Saya Gray, Iris favours emotional nuance over dramatic flourish, documenting grief, betrayal and resilience without rushing to resolution. Following album tasters 'rodeo', 'Spring Rush' and 'these are hard times (Say the Words!)', this is sophisticated, emotionally complex pop perfect for Radio 1 Future Pop, 6 Music, BBC Introducing and editorial playlists championing forward-thinking alternative pop. Just glorious.
