Summer Rain

We say
For those of you looking for something leftfield to kickstart your weekend, Sheffield's dance-punk outfit Life Aquatic Band deliver with 'Summer Rain', the lead track from their forthcoming Shuta Shinoda-produced EP 'Stuck in the Mud' (20 February 2026). It's a shimmering slice of electro-punk that distils the band’s high-octane live energy into something lean, dark and instantly danceable. Written by synth/vocalist Jazmine Kelly while cycling through torrential rain in Japan, the song pulses with urgency – crystalline synths and throbbing beats mirroring the exhilaration and unease of the storm. Shinoda (Hot Chip, Ghostpoet, Spiritualized) brings a sharp focus, blending tape-warm textures with LAB’s raw edge, giving the track both bite and shimmer. Fans of LCD Soundsystem, Hot Chip and Fat Dog will find plenty to love here, but 'Summer Rain' also pushes LAB into their own lane, balancing no-wave grit with electroclash sheen. With previous support from 6 Music (Steve Lamacq, Tom Robinson) and NME, the track is primed for indie/electronic playlists at DSPs, specialist spins at 6 Music, and Radio 1. Progressive, hook-laden and utterly infectious, 'Summer Rain' is Life Aquatic Band at their most exciting yet.
