Ramona

We say
The Jacques are having quite the moment. Fresh from touring with Public Image Ltd (where John Lydon took them under his wing after their van was stolen), the London-via-Bristol trio have dropped 'Ramona', a left-field indie gem ahead of their second album 'Make Repetition!' (out 5 September). Marking a bold stylistic shift, 'Ramona' trades scruffy guitars for ’80s new-wave shimmer, blending power-pop synth hooks, taut disco beats and Finn O’Brien’s playful vocal. It’s Talking Heads meets Blondie, but with the sharp British indie bite that’s made them cult favourites. The tongue-in-cheek video, filmed at Maidenhead Thicket Bowls Club, finds the band gleefully out of place, echoing the song’s themes of projection, desire and blurred fantasy. Support has been swift, with spins from 6 Music’s Chris Hawkins, Radio X’s John Kennedy, BBC Introducing and Amazing Radio, alongside early press praise from NME, The Line of Best Fit, Fault, Notion and more. Produced by Dan Swift (Snow Patrol, Biffy Clyro), Jules Apollinaire (Suki Waterhouse, Declan McKenna) and Gordon Raphael (The Strokes, Hinds), 'Make Repetition!' promises a sharper, more refined sound, drawing on Blur, Parquet Courts and Velvet Underground. Coinciding with the LP’s release, The Jacques will set out on an extensive autumn tour, joining The Sherlocks as main support, with additional dates alongside Alabama 3, The Twang and Grandma’s House.
