Pretty Tough

We say
London-born, Glasgow-based singer-songwriter Quiet Man grew up surrounded by music, raised in a family of musicians and classically trained from a young age. Initially making waves with jazz-pop reminiscent of Tom Misch, he’s since undergone a quiet but powerful reinvention. Now armed with little more than a free Gumtree piano and his voice, he’s turned inward, crafting stripped-back, emotionally resonant music that feels both intimate and unflinchingly honest. Released last week, ‘Pretty Tough’ is the starkest example yet — written during a period of personal turmoil, marked by reopened wounds, strained relationships and late-night soul-searching. The result is a tender, minimalist ballad that brims with quiet intensity, calling to mind the likes of Bon Iver, Lewis Capaldi and early Tom Odell. Poised for editorial playlisting across thoughtful singer-songwriter and stripped-back moods, ‘Pretty Tough’ also feels primed for radio support from BBC Radio 1, Radio 2 and 6 Music. Previously a bandmate of Fred again.. and Joy Anonymous, and with two early 2025 singles from his 'Oversensitive' EP earning him a spot on BBC Introducing’s Scottish Acts of the Year, Quiet Man is quietly carving a space all his own. One to watch.
