We say
Our final recommendation for The Great Escape this week is the London six-piece Home Counties. Pulling inspiration from a wide spectrum of influences - early 2000s pop, the high-octane energy of Confidence Man, the art-rock stylings of Talking Heads’ ‘Remain in Light/Speaking in Tongues’ era, as well as LCD Soundsystem and The Slits - Home Counties create a sound that feels both eclectic and unmistakably their own. We first featured them in 2022 with ‘Back To The 70s’, and again in 2024 with ‘You Break It, You Bought It’. Since then, they’ve released their debut album ‘Exactly As It Seems’, and featured on EA Sports FC 24 soundtrack. Along the way, they picked up radio support from Radio 1, 6 Music and Apple 1, and praise from the Sunday Times, NME, Loud and Quiet, So Young Magazine, The Line of Best Fit, DIY, Clash and more. Earlier this week, they dropped this Al Doyle (Hot Chip, LCD Soundsystem) produced single, exploring the theme of moral decline through the metaphor of a British expat. Built around glowering synths and a darker, more expansive palette, the song was premiered on Steve Lamacq’s BBC 6 Show and today, featured on new release programming at Apple Music. Catch them live tomorrow at The Hope & Ruin at 5:30pm for The Alternative Escape, followed by a late-night set at Horatio’s (11:15pm) for The Great Escape’s Submarine Cat Records showcase. If you are after wry, energetic dance-punk to close out your TGE, Home Counties are an essential addition to your must-see list.
