So Neurotic

Impact date: Single & EP: out now
ROTD featured date: Thursday 9 May 2024

We say

Next week sees the annual pilgrimage of the music industry's finest to Brighton for the Great Escape festival and hopefully sunny weather. Over the next week, we shall be looking at some of the acts we recommend you should check out. First up is London-based artist and RotD-favourite Al Costelloe. Formally one-half of critically acclaimed duo Big Deal (Mute Records) and live bassist for Superfood, Al has since the pandemic embarked on her solo career, which last year saw the release of her ‘So Neurotic’ debut EP. Inspired by Cate Le Bon, Julia Jackson and The Strokes her music has drawn praise from DIY Magazine, Clash, Wonderland, and The Line Of Best Fit, as well as featured on Spotify playlists and supported by Steve Lamacq, Craig Charles & Lauren Laverne at 6 Music and Radio X. Produced by Ali Chant (PJ Harvey, Yard Act), this gorgeous title track sways blissfully between jangly indie-pop and self-aware art-pop. With new music to come this year, Al is ready to showcase old and new at The Great Escape Festival with two shows. Next Thursday (16 May) she will play Alphabet (12.30) and then on Saturday she will play at The Arch (18.30).
