With spring just around the corner and warmer weather, we may have found the perfect tune to soundtrack those hazy days and evenings for you. ‘Queen of the Barrio’ is the silky new single from Finland’s Bobby Oroza and is a proclamation of love and respect for all the ladies who grew up in the barrios (a ward, quarter, or district of a city or town in a Spanish-speaking country) around the world. It’s utterly sublime and sees the jazz guitarist, musician and vocalist offer a lo-fi, indie-soul meets Chicano soul number pepped up by smooth keys, guitars and horns to underpin those dreamy vocals. With over 20m combined Spotify streams behind him, this timeless and yet modern retro-fused ode has bags of potential for syncs and to raise his profile further. Just brilliant.
