For those of you heading over to Groningen this week to attend Eurosonic, we recommend you catch rapper Sweetlemondae at MAAS on Thursday (18 January at 20.10). We’ve been a big admirer of her sound since we first heard on her Jafaris collab ‘Higher State’ last year and swiftly featured her feel-good tune ‘It’s Alright’. Born in Johannesburg and raised in Dublin, the 23 year old artist started to take her rapping seriously during the pandemic, having first started creating and uploading her own music to Soundcloud when she was 15. Influenced by Coi Leray, Little Simz and IAMDDB, Sweetlemondae’s music has already caught the attention of tastemakers like Notion, Hotpress, Clash, Spotify, and Colors, as well as been tipped by the Irish Times, Independent and RTE 2FM (Eurosonic 2024 pick). With its honest bars and soulful production, ‘Gimme A Reason’ is the perfect introduction to the sound and world of Sweetlemonade, a future star.
