We say

Next up on our Ones To Watch 2023 is West Yorkshire-born, London-based artist Emmeline. With a poet/playwright father and a radio dramatist mother, Emmeline has been surrounded by storytelling, art and culture her whole life. She trained with the Royal Exchange in Manchester and the National Youth Theatre in London before joining the spoken word collective Young Identity in 2017. The last year has been something of a whirlwind year for the 22 year old, who after plucking up the courage to ask for feedback on some demos from producer Fraser T Smith (Dave, Adele, Stormzy) at a gig, then went on to work with him on her debut EP, Satellite Navigation System, and also complete her English masters in Creative Writing from Oxford University. Tracks from the EP have won rave reviews from the likes of Clash, the Line of Best Fit and Sunday Times, while key support at radio has come from 6 Music (Lauren Laverne), Radio 1 (Jack Saunders), BBC Introducing, 1Xtra (Jamz Supernova) and Apple Music 1 (Matt Wilkinson). This bright and tender single based on Audrey Hepburn’s 1954 film Sabrina is her latest offering and shows her warm cadence and lyrical flair, alongside Fraser T Smith’s twinkling, feel-good production. There is something distinctly British about her delivery, one that instantly engages and draws you into her world. We love it and believe she has everything to become a breakout star in 2023.
