Our next Ones To Watch 2022 is the fantastic 21 year old emerging singer-songwriter Thomas Headon. Born in London and raised in Melbourne, Thomas returned to his birthplace just before the pandemic hit to pursue his music career. Over lockdown, he started to build a community online through TikTok (14.7m likes/410k followers) and Instagram (104k followers) with his off-kilter live sessions, tongue-in-cheek charm and songwriting ability. During this time, Thomas self-released his self-produced debut EP, The Greatest Hits, which is when he caught our attention with the beautiful alternative pop ode Butterflies. Since then, he has dropped The Goodbye EP, amassed over 50m global streams, performed at Reading & Leeds festivals, and went on a 17 date headline UK tour that included two sold-out shows at London’s Heaven. While his latest release, this sumptuous and upbeat bedroom pop number, was named Radio 1’s Hottest Record in the World by Clara Amfo. Tastemaker support has come from Clash, Notion, Dork, NME, DIY, Triple J and BBC Music Introducing, to name just a few. Plus, he has been featured heavily across DSPs playlists, including curating Spotify’s Our Generation playlist. Now, what we love about his playful alternative pop and songwriting is that it speaks to the Gen-Z experience but also holds nostalgic vibes and infectious hooks for us older generations to enjoy. Amazon Music (Artists to Watch 2022) and MTV (Push Ones to Watch 2022) are tipping him, along with us, for big things next year, so expect to see much, much more of Thomas in 2022.
