Driven by foreboding percussive elements and an eerie guitar riff, Beast is the title track to west London singer-songwriter Freya Beer’s debut album. Produced by Peter Hobbs (The Boy Least Likely To), it’s a track of unrelenting intensity that sees Freya sing about the conflicting feelings that can shadow a sense of empowerment. Watch the Paul Gallagher directed video here. With a poetic sense of lyricism inspired by Charles Bukowski and Anne Sexton, Freya blends the distinctive gothic stylings of Nick Cave and David Lynch to her musical aesthetic that also carries hints of Anna Calvi and Jack White. The album is a deliciously dark, intelligent and brooding affair that is worthy of a listen. Tastemaker support has come from 6 Music, Louder Than War, Frontview magazine, Aupium, and more. Next month Freya heads out on tour with her band across the UK, including a show at Paper Dress Vintage in London on 16 November.
