Tunnelling For Villains
Drenched in cinematic synths and driven by a powerful beat, Tunnelling for Villains is the gorgeous new single from London-based singer-songwriter Alex Starling. Having been integral to the early successes of Ou Est Le Swimming Pool, Alex went onto form The Ghosts (which we featured) and over the past couple of years, has been writing music for other artists. In 2019, he dropped his first solo single, We Lie To Ourselves, which quickly picked up tastemaker support from Clash, FMS, Impose and Happy Mag while also featuring on Made In Chelsea. Now back with its follow-up mixed by Eduardo De La Paz (Arcade Fire, The National), Alex offers a melancholic ballad told from the point of view of a couple watching visitors enter the gates of Pentonville prison. It’s a beautiful track with hints of Springsteen-esque feels and is perfect for sync opportunities on TV, as well as wistful/mood playlists at streaming. Majestically soothing and thoughtful.
