Released yesterday (25 May), Wild is the new track from south west London-based artist Arkuen. Growing up in a Columbian/Jamaican household he was exposed to a wide range of musical genres from salsa, cumbia, bachata, soca, dance hall, bashment, lovers rocks, old soul, gospel and reggae. So it is of no surprise that the music of the Brit School graduate has a distinctly fresh, dynamic and global-sounding feel. Produced by Neil Comber (M.I.A, AJ Tracey, Florence & The Machine), the track kicks off with birdsong before a highly addictive guitar motif comes in with minimal percussion and Arkuen’s soft, soulful vocals, all wrapped up in South American rhythms and Jamaican flair. This is a slick dose of global pop, ready for mainstream success and deserving of playlist additions at streaming and radio. It’s good, very good indeed.
