Resplendent in all its alt-pop goodness, Golden sees singer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, and performer Bellatrix return with aplomb in 2021. Having released a series of singles in 2018 and gaining plaudits from Notion, Clash, Dummy and Wonderland, Bellatrix is back with an effervescent and intense gem that blends elements of The Knife/Fever Ray with an almost Peter Hook riffage. Glazed with pop intimacies and provocative electronic additions, it’s the first track she wrote for her forthcoming new EP, I Was An Aphid, and captures the moments of helplessness in a past abusive relationship. The EP is her haunting journey through this relationship, the end of it and what happened afterwards. Released today (6 May), it already has numerous online features lined up, and we reckon, would be perfect for those alt-pop mood playlists at streaming services, as well as new release programming. Plus, we can see the potential for syncs to Netflix/Amazon TV shows and films. Inspired by the likes of like Björk, Kate Bush and MIA, Bellatrix offers a sound that flourishes with ingenuity, alongside a personal and touching narrative. One to watch.
