Bat and Ball

Artist: Eiza Murphy
Label: unsigned
Impact date: Out now
ROTD featured date: Friday 16 April 2021

We say

21 year old London-based, Cork-born artist Eiza Murphy burst onto the scene last autumn with two gorgeous bedroom/alt-pop tracks, her debut Black Hole and follow-up Taxi. It was her debut that quickly caught our attention and many other tastemakers too, including Earmilk, LeFutureWave, Music Crowns and RTE 2FM, where it was named ‘Track of the Week’. With both tracks achieving no.1 on the iTunes chart in Ireland and amassing over half a million streams, Eiza returns today (16 April) with this dark pop ode. Playing with the idea of control, misogyny, and dominance in a relationship, Bat and Ball is a powerfully evocative affair lyrically, backed by some deliciously eerie production from Jay Nebula and her older sister Lenii. It's perfect for additions to editorial mood/new pop playlists, and we can't get enough of it. Quite simply, outstanding. For fans of Billie Eilish and Lana Del Rey.
