We’ve all been waiting for a track to capture these strange days during the pandemic and now thanks to Nashville group Avenue Beat we have it. Originally recorded as a demo but put to one side as management were hesitant about releasing with the number of expletives in it, the girls decided to share it on TikTok and Instagram and thank god they did. It quickly became a hit, capturing the zeitgeist of a legion of teenagers across the globe and generating 7.8m views in 48 hours on TikTok. Now clocking over 11.7m views and tastemaker support from the likes of Vice, Dazed, and i-D magazine among others, F2020 hit streaming services today (10 July) and has already been added to new release programming and editorial playlists at Spotify, Apple Music and Deezer. With its melodic vibe, slow hip-hop beat and don’t give a f*** attitude, this authentic anti-2020 bop is set to become a massive streaming hit and soundtrack of the summer (and quite possibly the rest of 2020 too), proving you don’t have to follow the pop norms to write a hit.
