We say

Icelandic-born, Berlin-based Máni Orrason is an enigmatic artist who has this natural ability to happily transcend genres as he explores the world of love, loss and despair in his music. He first found success in his homeland at the age of 16 when he released his No.1 Icelandic Radio pop-folk hit Fed All My Days and debut album Repeating Patterns. Now based in Berlin, he released his self-produced indie-rock follow up album, I Woke Up Waiting, in 2018 and last year decided to shake up his pop sound once again with an electronic and modern twist on his Baby Angel EP with producer Nikolai Potthoff. The EP has since amassed over 4m combined streams with editorial support from Spotify (NMF, Indie Radar & Feel Good Indie), glowing praise from the likes of Billboard, Earmilk, Clash and the Line of Best Fit, as well as radio support across Germany, UK, the Netherlands and France. For us though, it is this well-polished alt-pop ode about love and yearning that is the real highlight of the EP. Still only 21, Mani is already building a pretty impressive back catalogue, and with a new EP on the horizon, we can’t wait to hear more from this talented artist. Contemplative, left-of-centre pop.

Mani’s charity of choice is Greenpeace: “Because of their past and continued work against the climate crisis. Whether it’s plastic, oil, the meat and dairy industry, fracking, deforestation or any other major threat to the climate, Greenpeace continues to raise awareness and work against the climate crisis.”

Sound Advice marks its 12th anniversary with a Spotify playlist focussing on its current roster of unsigned/DIY/independent artists. The playlist can also be viewed on YouTube.
