Telling a story of first love and heartbreak between two young lovers, Broken is the beautiful coming of age debut single from 18 year old South African singer Tatum. Filled with emotion and drama right from the off with its intense string opening and moving piano melody, Broken quickly captures your imagination as her vocals weave an intoxicating blend of the languid romanticism of Lana Del Rey and the moody phrasing of Lorde, amid lashings of gossamer dark pop. It’s utterly gorgeous and spellbinding. Premiered by Clash at the end of last week, Earmilk, Wonky Sensitive and Indie London have all quickly followed suit in their praise, along with radio support in her native South Africa with numerous plays across national radio stations over there. With an EP to come in the New Year (which we have heard and can say is pretty stunning) on Bad Future, this talented young artist looks set to have a breakthrough year. Exquisite dark pop for the masses.
