This chaotic yet deliciously soulful debut is from former Haus frontman Ash Mulimba, aka Mulimba. Produced by Haus bandmate Hylton, Damn kicks off with a distorted blast of hazy vocals before a slow boom-bap beat and gorgeous piano melody gradually builds, underpinning Mulimba’s sublime vocals. With its anthemic chorus and ferocious attitude, it’s a big, bold and urgent offering, full of confidence as he sings about good and bad times past. Released last Friday (8 November), the track has already picked up online tastemaker support from the likes of the Line Of Best Fit, When The Horn Blows, and It’s All Indie. Destined for soul and contextual playlists, we can also see this being perfect for sync opportunities in a Netflix TV series or a fashion/perfume commercial. Punchy and full of verve, Damn is one hell of a debut for this young man from north London.
