Belgian act Portland are another band worthy of your attention this week at the Great Escape, having previously been finalists in Belgian magazine Humo’s Rock Rally 2016 and winners of broadcaster Studio Brussels' ‘De Nieuwe Lichting’ in 2018. Performing at the Hideout at 1pm this Friday (10 May), Portland creates dreamy, otherworldly soundscapes, filled with drama and a rich storytelling narrative. Their debut single Pouring Rain has amassed over a million streams and led them to partner with PIAS last year. The first release together was Lucky Clover, an emotional and subtle number that got picked up on Belgian radio and helped them to sell out club shows, as well as land them spots at this year’s Rock Werchter and Pukkelpop festivals. This cathartic love song is their latest release and sees the group notch up the production to wondrous heights as Jente Pironet and Sarah Pepels' remarkable voices interweave gloriously with chimes, electronics and lush string elements. So be prepared to be washed away on a wave of melancholic atmospheres and beautiful storytelling.
