Stop Thinking (About Me)
Continuing our look at artists you need to catch at the Great Escape festival next week is 16 year old multi-instrumentalist Alfie Templeman who writes, plays and records everything himself in his bedroom. The Bedfordshire newcomer first burst onto the scene late last year with his debut EP Like An Animal on Chess Club and immediately drew praise for his washed-out indie from tastemakers at national press (Sunday Times, Observer), online (The Line of Best Fit, Clash, Dork) and radio (Annie Mac, Huw Stephens, Maya Jama, Clara Amfo) alike. This resulted in a BBC Radio 1 Introducing playlisting and a place in annual ones to watch polls everywhere from NME to British Vogue. Last month, he dropped this gorgeous indie banger, swopping his dreamy MGMT vibes for an angsty, early Arctic Monkey-esque feel. The track was named Jack Saunders Tune of the Week on Radio 1 and was featured heavily across streaming services editorial playlists at both Spotify (NMF, Indie List Your Office Stereo) and Apple Music (Best of the Week, The A List: Alternative, New Artist of the Week). With two shows at TGE next week on Saturday 11 May at the Three Wise Cats (Casablanca) (1.15pm) and upstairs at Patterns (8pm), this is one talented young musician with a bright future ahead of him that you need to see.
