We were totally blown away when we first heard this blissful dose of soulful alt-pop from singer-songwriter Lizzi. Based in east London, she originally grew up in Texas where she found her voice singing in her local gospel choir before moving to the UK when she was 10. Released this week, Longing sees those early influences seep into this heavy soul-inspired number that’s tinged with light jazzy vibes and a luscious R&B sensibility. The track is taken from her debut EP, Careless (out September), which initially started out as a solo project in her bedroom studio and grew into a collaboration with producer, Joe Lab of BOA. It’s perfect for chilled R&B and new pop playlists and we wouldn’t be surprised if she has a few labels or publishers knocking on her door once they hear this polished and fresh number. The track has already garnered tastemaker praise from The Line of Best Fit with Earmilk to follow soon, as well as spins on BBC Introducing to go alongside previous support for her last single, Anybody But You from the likes of The 405, Lock magazine, and Vents magazine. Tomorrow night [July 26] she will be playing a show at Biddle Brothers in Hackney, London, so if you are free we recommend you popping down.
