When We Were Young

Artist: Flight Brigade
Label: unsigned
Impact date: EP: October 23
ROTD featured date: Thursday 15 October 2015

We say

It’s a joy to spotlight Flight Brigade once more, as we genuinely thought they were the best unsigned band we saw live at The Great Escape this year. Their Friday afternoon gig at Patterns in Brighton in May showcased just how tight and accomplished they are as a unit. Their song Housefire was a former Record of the Day and it features in an alternative mix on their latest EP Stealing Fire, but this lead song has blown us away as it builds and consolidates on everything we’ve heard from the band so far. The production sound is immense - it was mixed by Donald Clark and Brian Virtue in Los Angeles (between them they’ve worked with Muse, 30 Seconds To Mars and Jane’s Addiction among others) with mastering from multi-Grammy nominated Mandy Parnell. They deliver a track that puts them smack-bang into that global radio-friendly crossover territory usually inhabited by Imagine Dragons and The Killers. Cancel all other plans on October 21 if you’re in London and make sure you see them launch the EP at Notting Hill Arts Club that night. This deserves to be a future festival anthem for decades to come. To describe it, just one word suffices - glorious.
