Million Pound Girl (Badder Than Bad)
Afrobeats impresario Fuse ODG's summer smash Antenna, the follow-up to internet hit Azonto, surpassed even our own expectations. After a lengthy sojourn on the Radio 1 playlist, Antenna debuted in the top 5, held the top 40 for thirteen weeks and sold over 300k units. In doing so Fuse, aka Richard Abiona, has been credited as having singlehandedly exported Azonto music from Ghana to the world by combining African influences with an international pop sensibility. Antenna was hailed Pop Song of the Year at the Ghana Music Awards, while Fuse was named Best African Act at this year's MOBOs. Like its predecessors, new single Million Pound Girl (Badder Than Bad) has got off to a great start; with four weeks to impact date it's playlisted at Capital Xtra, 1Xtra and Kiss Fresh and is already pushing into the Shazam top 100. The video will have its work cut out competing with the 8.5m views of Antenna, but 300k views in its first month is a very respectable tally. Fuse releases his debut album in spring 2014. If it's not called "It's Fuuuuuuse!" we'll be disappointed.
