The Sailor Song

Artist: The Gadsdens
Label: unsigned
Impact date: November 29
ROTD featured date: Wednesday 28 October 2009

We say

With The Sailor Song The Gadsdens release a debut single which instantly grabbed us as a classic- sounding pop song. Tom Robinson once described the band as sounding like "Tracey Chapman on uppers and Stevie Nicks on downers", not just a brilliant quote but an accurate description of Jody Gadsden's fine vocals and the band's style. The 'Top 10 Favourite Albums' list on their MySpace will give you a clear sense of their influences, as will their poignant cover of Bronski Beat's Smalltown Boy. Check out the animated video too. JF
London gig: November 1, Barden's Boudoir N16 (w/ Scott Matthew)
