With her debut single on Radio 2's playlist, the buzz on Asa (pronounced Asha) has spread from France. Raised in Lagos, her album is sung in both English and Yoruba and it fuses R&B, funk, soul and reggae as well as a myriad world influences. Given both the mix of influences and the warm laid back melody of tracks like this, it's no surprise that her music is being pitched at a variety of audiences - on her next UK trip she'll play sessions on both MistaJam's 1Xtra show and on Janice Long's Radio 2 show. A Jools Holland TV appearance is also scheduled. Asa's self-titled album is released next week on Dramatico under exclusive license from French label Naïve.
