The Underground

Artist: The Dawn Parade
Label: unsigned/Sugartown
Impact date: available to sign
ROTD featured date: Thursday 11 November 2004

We say

Greg McDonald of The Dawn Parade is one of our favourite songwriters of the moment, in the mould of Mike Scott, Kelly Jones, Ricky Ross and Springsteen. He was one of John Peel's favourites too - Peel played The Dawn Parade about 30 times and called Greg regularly to check on their progress. The Underground is their anthemic new single - "We're summer-born, summering-dieing, summer souls/We were never really young and we'll never grow old". You also have to hear their previous two brilliant singles Caffeine Row and Hole In My Heart (which was single of the year in Rolling Stone's Well Hung At Dawn column). Coming up, they have a session with John Kennedy on Xfm and a loads of dates including Islington Academy on November 26, plus they will shortly begin recording the rest of their album.
