We were instantly hooked the moment this stunning new ballad from north-west London's Reem Mitten hit our inbox, though we shouldn't be surprised after championing her brilliant 'Back to the Start of it' back in April. 'What The Hell', released yesterday (14 Oct), is a plaintive, blues-tinged gem that showcases her distinctive vocal and raw emotional power. It’s the kind of song that stops you in your tracks, and one we’re certain will catch the attention of music supervisors, DSP curators, and producers across Radio 1, Radio 2 and 6 Music alike. Exploring fading connections and emotional distance, Reem captures nostalgic ache and fragile hope even as patterns repeat. The songwriting cuts deep while maintaining an intimacy that pulls you in. From open mics to stages with Swim Deep, Bill Ryder-Jones, and Phoebe Green, plus BBC Radio Introducing backing and studio time with producer Dave McCracken (Depeche Mode), Reem Mitten's upward trajectory feels unstoppable. We said it in April and we'll say it again: Reem Mitten is a name to remember. 'What The Hell' proves she's an artist on the rise, and one to watch very closely indeed.
