YouTube Music today announces its annual UK ‘Ones to Watch’ artist spotlight, highlighting ten emerging artists who are set to follow in the footsteps of global superstars like Dua Lipa and Ed Sheeran, who first found fame on the world’s biggest music platform.
YouTube Music’s Official UK 2020 ‘Ones to Watch’:
Now in its second year, this inspiring new list of talent has been compiled by YouTube Music based on a variety of factors, including YouTube views, subscribers, engagement from global music fans, and YouTube Music analytics.
This year’s selection reads like a who’s who of the most exciting artists who are ushering in a new era for UK music. From the beguiling neo-soul of Bagladeshi-Irish Londoner Joy Crookes to the genre-bending sounds of South London collective D-Block Europe and the unique hip-hop influenced anthemic rock of Yungblud, the list features a diverse cross section of artists who are carving out truly pioneering sounds and visual identities on the platform.
Roz Mansfield, Artist Partnerships Manager at YouTube, UK said: “We are thrilled that this year’s Ones To Watch list is so diverse - a true reflection of music culture in the UK and Ireland today. The list represents a range of cultures all of which have one common thread; they are able to build genuine fan bases on YouTube Music, without boundaries.”
Aitch said: “I definitely appreciate what YouTube has done for my career. I wouldn’t be where I am today without it, I don’t think anyone would.”
Maisie Peters said: “It’s so exciting to be on the 2020 Ones To Watch list and really quite mind blowing considering one of the first things I ever did on my own was set up my YouTube channel and record videos in my bedroom with my mum pressing the record button and then running out the room. It’s so full circle to be one of YouTube’s Ones To Watch when there is no doubt in my mind that without YouTube I would not be doing what I do now - my fans and I started on YouTube and will always love the platform with our whole hearts. Thank you so much!”
Joy Crookes said: “Thank you so much for choosing me as a One To Watch, YouTube! All I have to do now is keep making sick videos!!”
Deno said: “To be part of the Ones To Watch 2020 is crazy. It’s a sick moment and I’m happy to be chosen. I grew up watching videos on YouTube and I obviously still do, so for the platform to recognise me is mad. Got a lot coming for 2020 - Thanks!”
Yungblud said: “I’m so hyped to have been recognised by a platform as influential as YouTube and to be sat amongst such a sick group of artists! It’s been such a wild year for me and I can’t wait for everyone to see what i’ve got in store for 2020!”
Ms Banks said: ““Super excited to be a part of YouTube’s ones to watch, it’s nice to be recognised and admire a lot of people that have been on this list before me”
