Youth Music begins search for next CEO as Matt Griffiths announces departure
01 October 2025 - Press releaseYouth Music today announces that it is seeking its next CEO, following Matt Griffiths’ decision to step down after 13 outstanding years at the helm.
Since joining in 2012, Matt has redefined Youth Music’s mission to break down barriers to music-making for young people nationwide. Under his leadership, the charity has increased crucial investment in grassroots organisations, expanded into Wales and Scotland, grown its income, launched groundbreaking programmes supporting young people to progress their careers in music and created the annual Youth Music Awards.
Matt said: “It has been the honour of my life to lead Youth Music and champion equal access to music for young people facing barriers. Youth Music represents everything I stand for personally and professionally. Stepping away has not been an easy decision, but after 13 incredible years, I know the charity is in excellent hands with a brilliant team, board and culture, to continue this vital mission.”
The Board of Trustees, led by Co-Chairs Charlotte Edgeworth and Isaac Borquaye, has begun the process of appointing Matt’s successor and will announce further details in due course.
Charlotte and Isaac said: “Matt’s leadership has been nothing short of transformative. His passion for inclusion has inspired everyone who works with Youth Music and left a legacy that will shape the sector for years to come. This is an exciting moment for a new leader to build on that success and guide Youth Music into its next chapter of growth and impact.”
Matt will remain in post until December to ensure a smooth transition.
