Wizkid: Made In Lagos The uduX Livestream
09 December 2021 - Press releaseLast week the Nigerian artist Wizkid made history when he became the first African musician to sell out London's O2 Arena, performing to 60,000 fans over three nights with his acclaimed "Made In Lagos" tour.
Wizkid also partnered with uduX, Nigeria's first indigenously owned music streaming platform, and with the biggest telco in Africa, MTN, to livestream Day 1 of the residency across Nigeria on November 28th, the first time an African artist has done this.
uduX has now announced that a record breaking 288,246 viewers watched the livestream making it Nigeria's biggest ever livestreamed event by a DSP and telco. It was the no.1 trend on Nigerian Twitter for 5 hours on the date and achieved a social media reach of nearly ten and half million.
uduX C.O.O .Douglas Jekan says: "Since its inception in Nigeria, uduX has pioneered diverse initiatives to provide our subscribers with well curated, innovative and high quality musical experiences but this was a new high. The Wizkid livestream also came at the perfect time as we and other Nigerians applaud and celebrate his musical evolution and Grammy nominations."
MTN Nigeria's CMO Adia Sowho said the Wizkid concert reflected the spirit of the MTN/uduX partnership, by showcasing the very best of Nigeria and Africa's artists to a global audience and vice versa.
She says: The record breaking concert by one of Africa's greatest is an epic feat, for which all of Nigeria and Africa is proud. MTN proudly supported the show by enabling more than 10times the arena's capacity to livestream the concert from the comfort of their homes across Nigeria. We hope that this is the first of many opportunities to bring the world to Africa and take Africa to the world."
uduX will be rebroadcasting the event with MTN once more on December the 19th.
