Wise Records, a boutique record label for reggae, dub and electronic recordings, releases launch EP from roots reggae legend Max Romeo

Wise Records, a boutique record label part of the Wise Music Group, is pleased to announce its launch EP with the release of Max Romeo Sings Classics - a newly recorded EP from the legendary roots reggae star which will be released on vinyl on the 18th March, preceded by the digital release of the first single Man Next Door. 

Wise Records is a platform to release unique reggae, dub and electronic recordings. Started by Wise Music CEO Marcus Wise, it joins other Wise Music Group record labels including Storyville, Old Town and Node. Distributed by Proper Music in the UK, Wise Records will release further projects in 2024.  Also released on 18th March will be digital recordings of Mango Walk by Clive Hunt and the roots classic Milk and Honey by Dennis Brown.  

The Max Romeo Sings Classics EP includes newly recorded versions of "Kingston Town", "Man Next Door" and "No Place Like Home".  It was recorded with Max's touring band during a break between gigs on tour in France, and mixed by legendary producer Dennis Bovell.

Max Romeo, a pioneering voice of roots reggae, is best known for his iconic songs with Lee ‘Scratch’ Perry (1936-2021) including “War Ina Babylon”, “Chase The Devil” and “One Step Forward”. Max comments: “I wanted to pay tribute to my fellow writers John Holt and Kenrick ‘Lord Creator’ Patrick on this record. These legends were not only my peers, but also close friends, and when Patrick left this world, I knew I wanted to do something in tribute to him, and I also wanted to pay my respects to John Holt who recently passed away...”

Marcus Wise, Wise Music Group’s CEO says: “It’s truly an honour to release this record with one of my musical heroes, Max Romeo. Max is a giant of reggae music, and a true professional. He came into the studio and smashed these songs, putting his unique stamp on these timeless classics. I can’t wait for people to hear these impressive versions. It was also a lesson in production watching Dennis Bovell mix and create dub versions of these songs for the B side.”

The EP on Vinyl and DSPs will be released on18^th March.
