Whitemoor–trusted accountants for the creative industries–announces the expansion of its music industry services as Gareth Murfin and Laura May take the helm as Founding Partners of its new Business Management & Royalties offering. Headquartered in London, the company has two additional offices across England, UK, in Derbyshire and Reading.
Combining some 45 years of expertise–working with the likes of Beatport, Bombay Bicycle Club, The Charlatans, Jon Shave, Submarine Cat Records–Murfin and May lead Whitemoor Business Management and Royalties LLP with the core value of helping creatives thrive, providing professional advice so clients can focus on their work while Whitemoor takes care of the numbers.
With an understanding of the unique financial needs of the music sector, Whitemoor specialist services include royalty accounting and administration, tour accounting and taxation, Creative Industries tax credits, catalogue valuations and planning, forensic accounting, and general financial services.
The new Whitemoor royalty services provides solutions for a range of clients including labels, publishers and other rightsholders – from admin including song registrations to collection societies, track/product registrations and reporting sales data on neighbouring rights and MCPS submissions, tracking income for those accounted to from multiple sources, reviewing income from royalty statements and ensuring accounting complies with individuals' contracts. Additional consultancy is available on royalty or publishing projects with the expertise of the new Whitemoor team.
In addition to Whitemoor music sector clients, Murfin serves as a Business Manager in film, TV and other creative sectors. He is a qualified Chartered Certified Accountant with more than 20 years of experience in the accounting and finance industry, working with creative clients from artists and BAFTA winners to freelance designers and fashion photographers.
Murfin previously worked at Lee Associates (now part of Haines Watts) and Tenon (now part of RSM). He was recently involved in successfully recovering a seven-figure amount in a forensic accounting case, uncovering fraudulent activity.
Bringing expertise in music publishing, royalty analysis, accounting, audit and copyright, May previously worked at Brighten Jeffrey James, Eaton Music, and First Access Entertainment before establishing her own business in 2017, May Music Limited. Alongside her duties at Whitemoor, May will continue to run her independent publishing company, with clients including As It Is, Heather Fenoughty, and Neck Deep, and continue duties with the Music Publishers Association as a board member and champion of its BeWELL mental health advocacy network.
May has been recognised as an 'Inspirational Woman' by We Are The City, an accomplished executive in PRS For Music's Independent Women in Music Publishing feature, and expert commentator in Women in CTRL's Seat at the Table report.
