Wasted Talent appoint Phil Alexander as Global Creative Director of Kerrang! and Rock Music Media

Wasted Talent Ltd – formerly Mixmag Media Ltd and home to Kerrang! and The Face as well as Mixmag itself – is delighted to announce the appointment of Phil Alexander as Global Creative Director of Kerrang! and Rock Music Media.
In the last 20 years Phil has been instrumental in shaping rock culture in the UK and around the world through his stewardship of MOJO, Q and Kerrang! – the latter a brand which he helped transform into Britain’s first truly multi-platform entity by overseeing its transition from print into events, radio, TV, online and beyond.
Phil will join the senior management team at Wasted Talent in mid September and will assume responsibility for Kerrang!’s print, digital expansion and events businesses, as well as contributing to the wider WT business as a whole. He will be based in Wasted Talent’s Central London offices but will hold a global remit, and will spend time in the organisation’s Los Angeles and New York offices.
Commenting on the appointment, Jerry Perkins, CEO of Wasted Talent, said: “Phil manages to combine two things that are rare: the passion of a fan with a sense of where things are heading next. Added to that is his ability to build extraordinary teams and to understand the needs of the audience. He also has the respect of musicians themselves as well as that of the wider the music industry. Then, there’s his understated business acumen... He is
the perfect person to contribute to Wasted Talent’s expansion, and to oversee Kerrang!’s global development in particular.”
Phil edited his first magazine in 1993 when he assumed the reins of rock magazine RAW, joyfully coercing members of emerging acts that included Mudhoney and Nirvana to write for the title. Since then, he has won multiple awards for his work as an editor. He has also expanded his role and worked in TV and radio, hosting his own shows and, in terms of the former, co-producing films for terrestrial broadcast and commercial release.
As the man who launched and presented such celebrated events as The Kerrang! Awards and The MOJO Honours List, Phil has also been at the forefront of creating new events which truly celebrate music in the wider context.
Latterly, he has held the post of Editor-in-Chief/Associate Publisher of MOJO, Q and the newly launched Planet Rock magazines at Bauer Media.
Says Phil: “I am honoured to have worked as part of the remarkable editorial teams at Bauer Media and, before that, at EMAP. During my time there I have been allowed the freedom to develop new ideas, and I have enjoyed a set of unique, life-changing experiences for which I will always be grateful. Working with Jerry and the Wasted Talent gang is a fantastic challenge that I am tremendously excited about as we embark on a series of new adventures.”
