War Child’s ‘Day of the Girl’ Concert Series Raises Over £40,000 to Support Girls and Women Affected by Conflict

War Child UK is proud to announce that this year’s Day of the Girl concert series has raised over £40,000 to support girls and women living in conflict zones around the world. The series featured headline performances in intimate venues by alt-pop artist girli, last year’s Mercury Prize winners English Teacher, and folk-pop singer Katy J Pearson. Alongside an exciting line-up of emerging support acts including Dirt Flirt, Neve Cariad, Sarah Meth, and Jimmy Means Smut.

The concerts, held across London and Liverpool in October, served not only as powerful showcases of musical talent but also as vital fundraising events for War Child’s mission to protect, educate, and empower girls and women affected by war.

Alt-pop artist, girli performed at London’s Oslo on October 9th, captivating audiences with their bold, socially conscious pop that challenges norms around identity, sexuality, and mental health. 

English Teacher, last year’s Mercury Prize winners, brought their intelligent and genre-bending indie sound to Liverpool’s Hangar 34 on October 10th. Their critically acclaimed music continues to inspire a growing national audience while spotlighting issues faced by children and women in conflict zones.

Closing the series, Katy J Pearson performed on October 12th at London’s iconic 100 Club, delivering her unique fusion of folk, pop, and country influences.

Supporting the headliners were emerging acts Dirt Flirt, Neve Cariad, Sarah Meth, and Jimmy Means Smut, who helped bring new voices and energy to the shows.

Currently, 612 million girls and women worldwide live in conflict zones, a staggering 50% increase over the last decade. Gender inequality and violence escalate dramatically during crises, with those assigned female at birth suffering 95% of all sexual violence and facing barriers to education and health care. War Child’s work aims to provide specialist mental health support, safe learning spaces, healthcare access, legal aid, and economic opportunities for these vulnerable populations.

Since 2021, War Child UK’s Day of the Girl concerts have now raised over £290,000 to support these efforts, with some of the UK’s most exciting artists, including Griff, Lola Young, Olivia Dean and Bree Runway, lending their voices to support the charity’s work protecting, educating, and advocating for the rights of girls and women amidst the turmoil of war.  

The campaign was generously supported by promoter Communion ONE and headline sponsor DHL.
