UK Music Welcomes BBC Move To Suspend Closure of BBC Singers

UK Music Chief Executive Jamie Njoku-Goodwin said: "We're glad the BBC has listened to the huge outpouring of support from across the music community, not just from the UK but from across the world, about the importance of saving the BBC Singers.

"The BBC Singers are a unique part of our music ecosystem and it would have been a disaster if they had disappeared from our cultural landscape.

"The public outcry to the plans to axe the BBC Singers and make major cuts to the Corporation's orchestras reflects the cherished place they have in our hearts.

"We now need the BBC to ensure the long-term future of the BBC Singers is secure. We also want the BBC to rethink its plans for major cuts to the Corporation's world-famous orchestras.

"The BBC does an amazing job showcasing British music and supporting our sector's talent pipeline.  We must work together to support the BBC and its fantastic musicians and singers."
