Today, the recording industry presents its usual review of the first half of the year, and PROMUSICAE, the organisation gathering more than 95% of the Spanish recording market, has published the figures recorded in the first six months of 2025. Taking advantage of the occasion, the organisation has published its annual report, ‘Radiografía del mercado de la música grabada 2024’ (Radiography of the recorded music market 2024), which presents the figures for the previous year in Spain and worldwide, analysing them and drawing conclusions about the current situation of recorded music in Spain and the challenges and opportunities it faces.

On this occasion, the figures presented by PROMUSICAE are published in ‘Industry Value’ (excluding VAT and distribution margins) instead of RRP (as has traditionally been the case), in line with the way they are presented internationally.

The good health of the Spanish record market is confirmed, as from January to June 2025 it generated revenues of €162.6 million in ‘industry value’, which translated into retail price would mean €288.8 million spent on the consumption of recorded music in Spain in its different formats.

The first half of 2025 has brought new growth for the recording industry, mainly thanks to the increase in the digital market, which continues to show very positive growth with a rise of 9.9%, due above all to streaming, which accounts for 99.2% of digital consumption.

The physical market has shown significant growth in the first half of 2025, with a 14.8% increase, due to the strong growth in vinyl sales (25.6% compared to the same period last year), with a slight decline in sales of compact discs (-3.2%) and other formats (-34.9%).

Streaming continues to grow at double-digit rates
The healthy growth rate of recorded music during the first half of 2025 is mainly due to digital consumption, which contributed €145.2 million (up 9.9% on the same period in 2024), accounting for 89.3% of the industry's total revenue. Within this consumption segment, streaming continues to be the star, accounting for 88.6% of the industry's total value, contributing €144.2 million and growing by 10.2% compared to the first half of 2024.

By type, paid streaming subscriptions account for €103.7 million in revenue for the industry (72% of total streaming), while advertising-funded audio and video subscriptions contribute €18.6 million and €21.8 million respectively (28% combined). As highlighted in the 2024 Radiography of the Recorded Music Market, although the adoption of subscription models continues to grow, we are still far from the penetration rates of paid subscriptions seen in neighbouring countries, which have proven to be the key to consolidating digital growth and ensuring a healthy and powerful industry at an international level.

As for the rest of the digital market, permanent downloads continue to decline (-0.5%, contributing just €0.8 million), while mobile products fell by 40.5% compared to 2024, contributing €0.4 million.

Interest in vinyl records remains strong.
The significant growth in vinyl record sales in the first half of 2025 (25.6% more than in the same period in 2024), contributing almost €12 million, and accounting for 68.8% of sales in physical formats, making this format the most interesting way to bring fans and superfans closer to the music of their favourite artists in a tangible way, strengthening their connection with them. CD sales, meanwhile, fell slightly compared to the first half of 2024, down 3.2% and contributing €5.34 million to the total market.

Favourable outlook for recorded music in 2025
Antonio Guisasola, president of PROMUSICAE, confirms the sector's satisfaction with the figures for the first half of the year, ‘Seeing data that shows that recorded music in Spain is maintaining its growth rates above 10.4% is good news for the sector, as it translates into a return on investment for the tireless work of artists and record companies to offer the best songs and albums to the public in a highly competitive market.’

Guisasola comments that, ‘it is more than confirmed that streaming is currently the main form of consumption sustaining the music market, although we must not forget that the public continues to show great interest in physical products, especially vinyl records, which are quality items that connect artists and fans.’ He adds that, ‘as highlighted in the Radiography of the recorded music market, the record industry faces challenges and opportunities to continue growing and recovering the levels of the 2000s, so that Spanish music can take its rightful place on the international stage and face the challenges that Artificial Intelligence is presenting us with. For all this, we need, in addition to maintaining public support, the commitment of public authorities to support and implement measures to support the sector, such as tax incentives for Spanish phonographic production, or ensuring that legislation in defence of intellectual property is enforced in relation to the use of protected works by AI developers.’
